Why do my ears feel clogged?
Clogged ears are most commonly due to a buildup of earwax. When earwax becomes impacted, it can cause discomfort, a clogged feeling, and even muffled hearing. Using a cotton swab to remove earwax should be avoided, as cotton swabs can push the wax further into the ear canal, causing impaction or damage to the delicate structures of the middle ear. If you have earwax that is affecting your hearing ability, contact our office.
Is it bad to have no earwax?
Earwax is a natural part of healthy ears. The amount of earwax you produce varies from person to person. Some people may not have very much wax secretion. This is normal and shouldn’t be a cause for concern.
Can medications cause tinnitus?
Yes, certain medications can be harmful to hearing and balance. These are called ototoxic medications and can lead to hearing loss, tinnitus, and balance problems. Certain antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and other medications such as prednisone and other antidepressants can cause tinnitus. Before starting a new medication, it is important to consult with your physician about the possible side effects.
How to unclog ears from congestion?
If your ears feel clogged, try swallowing, yawning, or chewing gum to open your eustachian tubes. If you still feel like you can’t hear clearly, we recommend coming in for a hearing test to ensure it is not hearing loss creating the plugged sensation in your ears.
How much do hearing aids cost?
At Chappell Hearing Care Center, we carry a wide variety of hearing aids at different price points and technology levels. We will work with you to find the right hearing aid that is within your budget. We also work with select insurance providers to help you better afford hearing healthcare, and we offer Care Credit. To discover if we accept your insurance, please contact us directly.
What happens if you don’t wear hearing aids?
When hearing loss is left untreated, the brain has a difficult time “hearing” sounds and retaining information. The brain then has to work harder to hear the little it can and has to fill in the gaps. Over time, this can lead to mental fatigue, forgetfulness, and even cognitive decline. It’s important to wear hearing aids at the first signs to keep your brain active and healthy.
What types of hearing aids do you offer?
We offer a wide range of hearing aids, including behind-the-ear (BTE), in-the-ear (ITE), and completely-in-canal (CIC) models, all designed to suit different levels of hearing loss and lifestyle preferences.
How do I know which hearing aid is right for me?
Our audiologists provide comprehensive hearing assessments and consultations to help you choose the best device based on your unique hearing needs and daily routine.
Do I need a prescription for a hearing aid?
While some hearing aids can be purchased over the counter, we recommend a professional hearing test to ensure you get the correct fit and functionality.
Are your hearing aids covered by insurance?
Coverage varies depending on your insurance provider and plan. We’ll gladly assist in checking your benefits and exploring financing options if needed.
How long do hearing aids typically last?
With proper care and maintenance, most hearing aids last between 3 to 7 years. Regular servicing can extend their lifespan.
Do you offer repairs and maintenance?
Yes, we provide full repair and maintenance services to keep your hearing aids working optimally. We also offer cleaning, battery replacement, and tune-ups.
Can I try a hearing aid before I buy it?
Absolutely! We offer trial periods for select models so you can test them in your daily environment before making a decision.
How often should I have my hearing checked?
We recommend annual hearing tests, especially if you already wear hearing aids or have experienced changes in your hearing.
